It’s rare for a memoir to read like a thriller but Alice Eve Cohen’s new book, What I Thought I Knew, does just that. The incredible story is about her discovery, at age 44, that she was not going through menopause or suffering from an abdominal tumor. She was six months pregnant, years after being told she was infertile and after having adopted a wonderful baby. The book is fascinating, brutally honest, and very funny. As mothers we need to tell our stories — and this is one of the very best.

I read this memoir on your recommendation and have been telling friends about it ever since. I think anyone who has ever been pregnant will be compelled by the tale — which I was only able to face because of its I knew it had a happy ending — and by how good Cohen’s writing is. Thanks.
